I still contend that Detention is genius and the 90s references that drive the movie are hilarious and magical.
Plus there’s this:

While I’m pimping out movies, I’d like to humbly remind you that Detention is delightfully weird as hell in all the right ways. There’s a serial killer & time travel & body switching & giant bears & alien things & love & a dance off all the great stuff. I really love this movie.
Remember when I told you children about Detention? I was serious. Watch this shit. It’s crazy wonderful. I made a ringtone with their opening Mmmbop credits and it only now got replaced and might make it back again because it’s that great. Also, the DVD is on Amazon for $6. If you regret that $6 purchase, you have no sense of awesome.

I swear I'm not 14.
I might have made a ringtone on phonezoo for my phone using a microphone, speakers, and youtube video of the opening credits of Detention. And FYI…Damn you, Hutcherson for being adorable. Still. MmmBop, FTW!!
Dammit.
Watched Detention again. Even better this time. To anyone who ever hated on me for loving “MmmBop” by Hanson (including my husband), screw you. The revamp in this film makes me love it all over again. I love being an 80s/90s kid. And damn you, Josh Hutcherson for still being adorable.
Sidenote: Whoever put Dawson’s Creek on Netflix…I love you.
Let me just tell you about this movie Detention.
It is completely and utterly fantastic. And you don’t know why. You will watch it, watch the special feature (which is the movie with interviews and trivia popped up throughout), and you will want to watch the movie again.
Because of awesome.
The cinematography is badass, the storyline is weird, the cast is spot on, the music amazing, and you will never be able to explain it to anyone or understand it.
But it is fantastic.
Joseph Kahn and Mark Palermo are geniuses, simple as that.
